Attic Vase
acrylics on paper mache
15" x 8"
back
What does one do with a cheap
paper mache vase that has
been knocking around in one's
studio for ten years? Why use it
to create a priceless ancient
artifact, of course! This vase
just always seemed so strong
in it's shape as to suggest
nothing else other than what it
was. So I made it more so.
Always intrigued by images of
ancient everyday life, especially
those found on pottery and
items made for daily use, I had
a good time doing this pastiche
of an ancient vase complete
with scenes of great intimacy
interrupted in a manner much
more contemporary to our own
times. Alas.
