Under Pressure
pencil, charcoal, ink with collage on canvas
30" x 48"

This piece was started a number of years ago as a collage of cards from someone special. Though it came together originally as a cheerful pattern, it really was never meant to be. Receiving all these symbols of attention (several daily) was sweet, but unfortunately they soon proved to be representations of the concept of "being in love with love". So how does one balance happy memories of hearts and flowers with a sad ending to a relationship without bitterness? Apparently by putting the piece aside for years. Distance seems to be a cure to dwelling on hurt feelings and directing blame. While I did envision the figure from the start, I was not able to execute it until much later (and it came together very quickly at that point).
