Taking the materials and forms I have been exploring from Haitian drapeaux, I applied them to a traditional Japanese celebratory item, the Koi Nobori kite typically flown from family rooftops on Boy's Day. Each boy in the household is represented by their own Koi, a symbol of strength and longevity.

The heavy embellishment of this Koi Nobori implies that it may have been created specifically for that one particular boy identified as being perhaps just a touch more fabulous than his brothers.
