Always a fan of color and pattern, I have a great time playing with both. That certainly was true with this piece. I also enjoyed playing with framing the image making it almost unrecognizable.
This piece was originally created as the center panel of a "Celebration Triptych" - a collection of images comparing and contrasting strong ceremonial visuals from different cultures. The central element was almost abstract when compared to the other two, but ironically was even more visually celebratory in spite of this. For this reason, it has always been my favorite of the three.
